Saffron

Brain health. Saffron’s health benefits are undeniable. There’s preliminary evidence that it helps protect the kidneys, eyes, and heart and, perhaps of greatest interest, the brain. Animal and in vitro studies point to a possible connection between saffron extract and cognitive improvement, and a small Iranian study, with fifty-four human subjects, found a small improvement in patients with mild to moderate dementia. Australian researchers reviewing herbal medicine studies found preliminary evidence that saffron has antidepressant properties, as well.
